Gender and Networks: A BSA Postgraduate Forum Event

Venue: University of Manchester, M13 9PL

Sorry, this event has now ended.

The Mitchell Centre for Social Network Analysis at the University of Manchester is excited to be hosting a one-day postgraduate forum on the topic of Gender and Networks.

This event is open to all postgraduates and early career researchers who are currently using or are interested in using relational perspectives and methods to investigate gender dynamics in their research.

Key questions that the event will aim to address include:

  • How does gender affect the strategies people adopt in using their personal networks?
  • What evidence is there for the ways in which gender discrimination operates through social networks?
  • What are some of the innovative methodological approaches social networks researchers are using to capture the role of gender in their observed network structures?

By raising questions such as these, it is hoped that participants will better understand the possibilities for identifying meaningful ways of capturing the gendered dynamics of their own research using relational concepts and tools.

The event will feature presentations from leading social network researchers (to be announced shortly) who will share their work on gender and networks as well as reflections on the event theme. There will also be a roundtable-style panel discussion session in which participants will have the opportunity to ask the expert speakers for advice and insight into their own interests and research projects.

More information confirming our excellent keynote speakers, the detailed programme and location information will follow soon.
